We Live In Time
“I’m guilty of looking ahead instead of right in front of me, at you.”
Tender, emotional and beautiful, We Live In Time is an impactful romantic drama fuelled by the incredible chemistry of its leads Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh, who absolutely tug at your heart strings in a tremendous non-linear ode to living life with those you love while you can.
Discussion Points:
I’m crying. This absolutely beautiful gut punch of a film knocked me out. Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh are an endlessly charismatic pairing with so much chemistry. I was instantly won over by their love story, with all its ups and downs. I will say that the non-linear approach really worked for me but I can understand why some may find it disorienting. And I know some may find the film melodramatic, but I’m a sucker for an unabashed romance that wears its sappy soppy heart on its sleeve. Bryce Dessner’s marvellous score is gentle and soothing. The screenplay is rich with humour and heart. And it’s refreshing to see two individuals so deeply in love, but not perfect. Alma’s selfishness is frequently frustrating and yet Tobias’ tender compassion breaks down her walls and barriers. I truly loved this, and yes - a few others in the cinema chuckled at the carousel horse!
