Look Into My Eyes
“I’m not sure I believe 100% of what I say.”
Even-handed, intimate and vulnerable, Look Into My Eyes is a tender documentary that empathetically examines the lives of psychics and their clients, demonstrating how the healing is more pertinent that the predictions, and how the need for human connection is common to all.
Discussion Points:
Believe what you will about psychics - but they are also vulnerable people often dealing with their own inner demons - which puts them in a vicarious position when selling their talents to others who are equally vulnerable and seeking healing and answers. Many are riddled with doubt, and burdened by the stigmas, and their clients are often just in deep need of reassurance and closure. As a documentary, Lana Wilson takes an even-handed approach, never dismissing the psychics but also never showing them to be impervious to error. It does feel a tad overproduced and staged with the talking head interviews and filmed psychic readings that are both intimate and yet also imposed on by the camera. As far as documentaries go, it’s an empathetic look at an interesting subject, but I wish it went a bit deeper into their motivations and what happens when things don’t go well.
