The Housemaid

"I just really enjoy being a housemaid. For the right families, of course."

Suspenseful, seductive and suspiciously alluring, The Housemaid takes a twisting and turning script and elevates it with strong performances who make the most out of the heightened melodramatic moments to deliver an entertaining throwback to the erotic thrillers that dominated the 90s but with a playful sense of fun that’s firmly authored by Paul Feig.

Discussion Points:
Styled in the same vein as other trashy campy airport book thrillers like The Girl on the Train and The Woman in the Window, The Housemaid knows exactly what it is and revels in it. Is it ultimately full of expected end points… sure, but it has a lot of fun twisting and turning to get itself there and whilst it definitely has a few red herrings too many to be a truly satisfying mystery thriller, Sweeney, Seyfried and Sklenar give this film their all with absolutely captivating, darkly disturbed, psychologically fascinating caricatures. Definitely not for the faint of heart with its erotic, tragic and manic moments, but for those who want their pulse elevated by some trashy thrills - this is the film for you.
