The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie
“We’re not afraid of nothing!”
Nostalgic, comedic and classic, The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie may run a little long and not fully sustain its feature length runtime, but it’s an absolute joy to see these beloved cartoon characters on the big screen getting up to all kinds of looney shenanigans in beautiful traditional hand-drawn animated style!
Discussion Points:
Thank goodness that Ketchup Entertainment saved this from WB deletion. I have no idea what David Zaslav has against the Looney Tunes but these classic characters have made generations laugh and so I’m thrilled they’ve got another feature length adventure to enjoy. Whilst the Tunes do work best in short films, and so The Day the Earth Blew Up occasionally feels overlong and has a few jokes that feel repetitive - the simple fact is that the story is just a background to allow a series of entertaining cartoony vignettes to play out with clear passion and respect for the legacy of these nostalgic classics. I loved the inclusion of Petunia Pig and her adorkable romance with Porky. I loved the brotherly bond between Daffy and Porky. I enjoyed the silly goofiness of a chewing-gun alien conspiracy. I’m so glad I got to see this on the big screen and am thrilled that Coyote vs. ACME has also been salvaged and will see a big screen release in 2026! Support traditional animation!
