Sydney Film Festival 2025 - 2000 Metres to Andriivka

DOCUMENTARY REVIEW

2000 Metres to Andriivka is an absolutely harrowing and devastating firsthand account of the Ukrainian counteroffensive to the Russian invasion. Captured almost entirely by helmet mounted cameras, Mstyslav Chernov’s follow-up to his Oscar winning 20 Days in Mariupol shifts the focus to frontline forces as he imbeds into a unit trekking through 2000m of forest to liberate a village under Russian occupation. But when they arrive, “everything is destroyed - people, animals, memories - nothing is left except for a name” - Andriivka. So many lives lost. So much destruction. It cost so much. And gained so little. An absolutely brutal and visceral documentary that depicts firsthand the horrors of war.
