The Best Christmas Pageant Ever

“The Herdmans are absolutely the worst kids in the history of the world.”

Festive, funny and family-friendly, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever is a fantastic seasonal celebration full of hope, joy, peace, grace, compassion and occasionally combustion in a heartfelt adaptation of the Christmas classic sure to warm even the grinchiest of hearts.

Discussion Points:

A refreshing “Christian” holiday film that never feels preachy or patronising but that focuses on the core Nativity themes celebrated at Christmas. Christmas is about the birth of Jesus, the Emmanuel - God with Us. And Dallas Jenkins (creator of The Chosen) is a great pick to adapt the holiday novel for the big screen and keep Christ at the core whilst still delivering an entertaining and engaging and accessible film. It’s powerful seeing the lives of the Herdmen kids transformed as they hear the Christmas story and begin to understand the importance of Jesus’ birth. It’s also powerful seeing a community of self-righteous, arrogant and intolerant believers humbled and reminded that Christ came for sinners, not saints, and welcomes all. It’s a film that never disrespect the Nativity, but also doesn’t venerate it and make it something that we need to be so self-serious about and it’s cathartic seeing the uptight judgemental churchgoers soften and learn to laugh. A film that made me feel full of Christmas cheer - a great festive, funny, family-friendly time.
